Orissa Matric Examination results declared

The High School Certificate Examination (HSC) or matric examination results were declared on Tuesday morning in Orissa. The matric examination results are also available the websits - http://www.bseorissa.in/ and http://orissaresults.nic.in/.

In the state around three lakh students had appeared the matric examination and 2,11, 846 students have passed the matric examination. The pass percentage in the state is 63.41 per cent.

As per the result declared by the BSE, 43,399 students have secured first division, 71,942 secured second division and 96,376 students passed in third division. In the state, Dhenkanal - has the highest pass percentage of 80.12 per cent, while the Kandhamal has recorded the lowest pass percentage of 43.51 per cent.

This time the BSE has published a list top 100 students of matric examination. As per the list, Bibek Bishal Mehena (574) of Saraswati Vidyamandir (Rourkela) and Sanket Dash (574) of Saraswati Shishu Bidya Mandir, Ramaharinagar have topped in the matric examination.

State Govt Approves Eight Bio Mass Power Projects

The state government has approved to set up eight bio mass power projects, in eight districts, according to media reports. The eight bio mass power projects would be set up in Dhenkanal, Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Raygada and Nawarangpur districts.

This time the summer is a tough time for the government and people of the Orissa state. The power cuts in the state is inevitable, but the cuts have impact on the industrial production. Delay in the monsoon in the state has affected the hydro power generation in the state. The cost of power supply to industries is very less comparing to other states like in Gujarat. But the interruption the supply to industries will be a great challenge for the state government to dealt with.

The government of Orissa has been considering the shortage of power at the hydro power projects as matter of concerns for the state. It is believed that with the situation may leader to further worse if there delay in arrival of torrential rain in the state.

CM directs secretaries to prepare five-year perspective plan

The Cheif Minister Naveen Patnaik asked the secretaries of all the departments to prepare five-year perspective plan within 15 days in consultation with the Concerned department Minister. The state may see the five year plan model for the implementation of the government policies.

The finance minister of the state has presented the budget on Thursday and the government will give priority to the schemes like Rs 2 a kg rice scheme, Madhubabu Pension Yojana and Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana.

The CM directed the officials to extend their efforts in the grass root level, for the successful implementation of the state government policies. It is noteworthy, that the BJD sweep both municipal and assembly election and now the government plans for its work from the village level for the development.

10,035 students qualified in IIT-JEE for 2009

IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) results were announced on Monday, over ten thousand students have qualified for the year 2009. Nitin Jain of Delhi is the topper for 2009.

Many aspirants aim to crack the IIT-JEE top score in order get admission into 15 IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. In the IIT-JEE 2009, 1,048 girls have also qualified out of total 10,035 qualified students.

This year the total seats in the IITs are 8,295 and the number of last year was 6332. Two new IIT s - Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and Indore in Madhya Pradesh will start functioning this year. The counselling for admission will start from 9 June 2009. 2,831 students have qualified from alone Mumbai Zone, which is the highest result achieved by a single zone.

HC directs OPSC for fresh common OAS main examination

The High Court directed the Orissa Public Service Commission (OPSC) to conduct the common main examination of Orissa Administrative Services (OAS) for all the qualifying candidates again on Thursday. The Bench comprising Justices BP Ray and BP Das asked the commission to completed entire process of with in three months.

OPSC will have to conduct re-examination of all 4,560 students as per the court directive. The OAS (Main) examination held in 2008 and around 3,730 students had appeared. There was controversy over the number of qualifiers of preliminary examination. The preliminary list was published once again with the names of 830 students added to it.

ICSE and ISC exam results will out today

The examination results of 2009 CISCE and ISE will be declared on Wednesday at 10 am by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The students of class X and XII can get their result from the website of the CISCE.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exam results will be declared on Friday at around 11 am. CBSE results of the Class XII for Chennai, Ajmer and Panchkula regions will be announced today at 10 am. For the first time CISCE is hosting exam results on its website. Students can register and get the results.

Orissa DHE to introduce e-admission in 60 junior colleges

The Department of Higher Education will implement a pilot project for e-admission in 60 junior colleges in Orissa under Student Academic Management System (SAMS). Under the project, students can file their application for admission through online.

The Higher Education Secretary, Madhusudhan Padhi told media that under SAMS - 51 government colleges and nine aided colleges made online for the admission for 30,644 seats. This is a pilot project and would be implemented in the other colleges in phases.

In order to apply online for the admission students can get the Common Application Form (CAF) and Common Prospectus (CS) from the website 'www.dheorissa.in''. The CAF and CF will be available at college counters from June 16, students can get those by paying Rs 20 and Rs 10. Students can file their application from June 16 to June 30.

Using the CAF students can opt several streams and colleges with a cost. They need to pay Rs 50 each for first five options, Rs 75 each for next four options, Rs 100 for each four options and Rs 200 each for beyond 14 colleges and streams.

The online admission or e-admission would be easier for students to apply in various colleges and streams through only one CAF. They can track their status of their application through a token number that is provided at the time of submission.

Loop Telecom launches of operations in Orissa and TN

Nalco has decided to launch group insurance scheme for its workers following resent attacks by naxals, some media reports quote. The havoc of the naxal attack has been affecting the production at the mines.

The safety of the workers is the prime object for the companies. As the insurance of the workers may helpful to motivate the workers to join the work. But the menace of the naxal attack will be there.

The safe measures should have given priority for the workers particularly working in the second shift or till night. Management may plan many measures to bring back the workers to the producing unit. Labour welfare measures may be taken by management in order to protect the interest of the workers in Orissa.

Orissa to get Rs 140 crore under Integrated Coastal Zone Management project

The Orissa will get a fund of Rs 140 crore from the World Bank under the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) project. The fund would be utilized to monitor and check any terrorists infiltrations thought coastal belt.

The World Bank has planned to fund Rs 140 crore for the implementation of ICZM project across 482 km of coastal area. Alongwith Orissa the other states - West Bengal and Gujarat are also the beneficiaries under this project. The Chilika Development Authority has been the nodal agency for preparing ICZM and the work will begin after getting complete approval from the World Bank.

The project will help the state to strengthen its security and can also monitor the climate change in the state. The people of the coastal areas of these state would be more relax to have this project. The climate change can also be monitored so that the damage would be less in future.

Orissa HC serves notice to DAV School Regional Director

Orissa High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Himanshu Mohanty, the Regional Director of DAV Public Schools over the fees hike. The single judge bench of Justice MM Das has directed Mohanty to appear in person on May 13, according to media reports.

Mohanty has reportedly issue a noticed to parents over fees payment. It is noteworthy that the schools authorities have issued notice over the fees hike despite the matter is sub judice. Considering this act as contempt, the High Court issued contempt notice to Mohanty for issuing notice over the fees hike. In the state, parents have express their resentment over the fees hike by school authorities. The hike in the fees by the DAV School was challenged by parents at High Court.

On March 27, the state government has allowed the private schools to increase the fee structure provisionally up by 25 per. But would be applicable to the private schools are paying 5th Pay Commission scales and were to implement the 6th Pay Commission award to their staff. Later, the Orissa High Court issued a stay on the Government notification allowing private English medium institutions to hike their tuition and development fees from the 2009-10 academic session.

Bhushan Energy acquires 0.39 percent equity of Orissa Sponge

Bhushan Energy run by the founders of Bhushan Steel, has bought shares of Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel through an open market transaction. Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel has informed media that the Bhushan steel has acquired 0.39 of equity (1,03,996 shares) at a price of Rs 332.7 a piece.

Following the deal, there was a rise in the value of shares of Orissa Sponge in the stock market on Wednesday. The Acquisition by Bhusan Energy was carried out under the provisions of Regulation 20 (7) of the Takeover Regulations. The acquisition has been anticipated for long time in the market. However, the deal has gave some shine to the equities of the Orissa Sponge on Wednesday.

BPUT postpones Semester Exams indefinitely

The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has postponed all the exams till further notice. The reason for the postponement of the exams is not clear year. The Sixth Semester exams were scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 2nd. The Second Semester and Fourth Semester exams were to begin on May 6 and May 4 respectively.

BPUT has postponed all the exams till further notice. It was reported that BPUT students of 1st and 2nd year have been demanding to remove the Not Fit for Technical education (NFT) regulation. BPUT had issued a notice over the NFT on April 25.

According to notice issued by BPUT "Any student getting lower than 4.5 SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) in 3 consecutive (1st, 2nd and 3rd) semesters is declared ‘Not Fit for Technical education’ (NFT) and has to quit BPUT at the second year".

SC ordered Centre to setup anti-ragging website

The Supreme Court of India has asked the central government to set up anti-ragging websites, according to media reports. Recently, there were many ragging reports came to light. Many students lost their life due to ragging.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG), Gopal Subramaniam stated this in the Supreme Court on April 20 as the Raghavan anti-ragging committee's report on Kachroo's death was presented.

Sometimes, authorities did not take the complaints filed by students over their ragging by senior seriously. Those complaints should be taken seriously by the authorities . Ahluwalia Contracts secures Rs 353cr orders

Civil construction company Ahluwalia Contracts India today said it has received orders amounting to Rs 352.98 crore from different vendors, according to media reports.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Ahluwalia Contracts has informed about it receiving the orders worth Rs 352.98 crore for different construction-related works. The company has got orders worth Rs 64.84 crore from Apollo Hospitals Enterprises.

The company has also bagged order worth Rs 27.03 crore from Jindal Stainless for the construction work in Orissa. The company bagged an order for construction of hotels and flats worth Rs 81 crore from Rites Limited in Delhi and another valued Rs 109.47 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corp for construction works at Orissa. Shares of Ahluwalia Contracts hit its upper circuit at Rs Rs 48.95, up 4.93 per cent on the BSE.

DoT holds back extra spectrum to Airtel, to seek legal view

The Government has held back allocating additional spectrum to Bharti Airtel in Orissa, in view of the telecom tribunal's recent judgment that GSM operators have no vested right to get airwaves beyond 6.2 MHz, according to ET report.

After the verification, the Department of Telecom (DoT) said that "Bharti met the eligibility criteria and hence (is) eligible for 7.2 MHz GSM spectrum in the entire service area (Orissa)". Bharti had demanded additional spectrum based on the criteria announced by the DoT in January last year.

Nalco mines may resume operations on April 19

A crack bomb disposal squad of the Orissa state police arrived at Nalco’s Damanjodi mines on Friday to scan the area following last Sunday’s daring Maoist attack.

Nalco, which produces nearly 4.8 million tonnes of bauxite annually, now hopes to start operations at its mines only on Sunday, if the bomb squad completes its job on Saturday and declares the mines area ‘safe’.

The companies aims to bring back the confidence level of its employees those were on scare due to such incidents. The Naxal problem causes huge loss to the state and the interest of the employee should be protected by the government. The security measures to be strengthen in the state following the incidents.

Bhushan Steel gets nod to go ahead with open offer for Orissa Sponge

The Securities and Exchange Board of India allowed Bhusan Steel for open offer for the Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel, according to media reports. The fight of ownership of Orissa Sponge Iron & Stell in legal discuptes.

The company Bhusan Steel has welcomed the Sebi’s view over the takeover regulations and it got nod of Sebi for the open offer. However Sebi also maintained that it will conduct an investigation into the alleged violation of takeover rules by Bhushan Steel as alleged by Orissa Sponge. B

Bhushan Steel ups Orissa plant capacity

The Delhi-based Bhushan Steel has increased the production capacity of its integrated steel plant in Orissa five times to 2.5 million tonnes. The plant, which mainly produces hot rolled coils (HRC), will operate at the enhanced capacity from September this year, according to media reports.

The company has been investing Rs 7,000 crore to boost the plant capacity by 2 million tonnes. Bhushan Steel plans to increase the Orissa plant's capacity to 5 million tonnes and this would be achieved by 2012. For this the company plans to invest Rs 8,000 crores. A 450-mw power plant has also been set up to meet captive power requirements.
