Need for Education Policy on Distance and Online Education in India?
The UPA government at the centre is giving importance for education reforms in India. Scrapping matriculation board exams is the major decision and thanks to the Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr. Kapil Sibal for his contribution. Now the question arises in mind, whether the government will eye to have a special policy over the distance education and online education in India.
The distance education is given priority in most of the countries and back in India it has less importance comparing the regular education system. However, the time has been changing in India too, the distance education for degree is now being considered as valid. Earlier, it was a difficult task for students to have validate their distance education degree.
Due to the poor infrastructure the dream of having better online education system is possible in India. According to one survey, around 10 to 13 per cent of the total population have access the Internet, whereas the number would be high in other countries.
It is also very important for a nation to have better policy on distance and online education. Institutes should come up with more and more flexible learning courses and programme for students those can't attend the regular sessions. In the states like Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and other states need proper distance and online education facilities.
