25 per cent rise in Civil Services aspirants
Indian youth are now giving more importance to the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), the Indian Police Service (IPS) and other government services. There is rise of 25 per cent civil services aspirants in India comparing to the previous year figures. It may be the impact of the global financial crisis on Indian job market and uncertainty of private sector job market. The swing towards to IAS would made the competition more tougher.
According to media reports, there are 4.09 lakh applicants for the first leg of the three-stage civil services examination, conducted by the Union Public Services Commission, to select officers for the IAS, IFS, IPS and other government jobs.
The rise in civil services aspirants was seen after three years, as in 2006 there were 3.83 lakh applications filed. In 2007 the number was dropped to 3.33 and in 2008 it further down to 2.25 lakh.
