Orissa files suit in SC over Andhra's Pollavaram project

The state government has filed an injunction suit in the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking immediate suspension of work of Polavaram project.

The petition was filed because work is reportedly being continuing by Andhra Pradesh government despite repeated objections by the Orissa government.

Indira Sagar Polavaram multipurpose irrigation project would be built on river Godavari in Andhra Pradesh with cost of around Rs 10,150 crore. The project has been opposed by local residents nearby areas over fear of displacement, in Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
