Orissa recommends POSCO for Khandadhar iron ore mines

The state government has recommended the South Korean steel major POSCO for prospective license of Khandadhar mines in the district of Sundergarh. The state government has also sent a letter to the central government for mining of over 2,500 hectares, according to media reports.

The company reportedly proposed to carry out mining in an area of about 6,000 hectares in iron ore rich Khandadhar hills range. The proposed region is also well known for waterfalls and one of the destinations in Orissa for tourists.

However, the project has been opposed by the people of nearby 15 villages. The senior leader Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and MP, Jual Oram has also been protesting against the project.
