Orissa Govt to appeal Supreme Court against Polavaram Irrigation Project
The Orissa state government will appeal the Supreme Court of India against the approval of Polavaram Project by the technical advisory committee of the Central water Commission (CWC), according to media reports.
It is reported that the Technical advisory committee of CWC has approved the project without any discussing with Orissa government. The amended design of the Polavaram project would affect Orissa, as eleven villages of the Malkangiri district would be submerged.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has proposed for the project on the West Godavari river with an expenditure of Rs 10, 050 crore. The project has been opposed by the states - Orissa, Jharkhand and Chhattigarh.
