Birla Tyres shuts down Orissa unit till Jan 31

Birla Tyres, a unit of the BK Birla group company Kesoram Industries, has closed down its Orissa plan temporarily till Jan 31. The impact of the global financial crisis and the falling in the sales are the major reasons.

The company unit in Orissa has capacity of1.50 million tyres, tubes and flaps per year. The unit has been exporting around 30 per cent of its production to 43 countries in the world. It is the impact of the global financial crisis.

The unit employs some 2,200 people and they will not be paid during the close down. Last month also the unit was closed for 15 days due the falling the sales.
