Violence in Kantamal, Boudh; 250 Houses burnt

The communal violence in Kandhamal now spreads to neighbouring Boudh. In a shocking development yesterday, at least 250 houses were burnt in Kantamal block. The villages, which were affected included Masinagora, Kanakutura, Phatamunda, Uma etc.

According to eye-witness sources, over 100 people armed with iron rods and sharp weapons attacked the village, threatened people and set the houses on fire. The villagers left to nearby forests and later they took asylum in Kantamal police post. The new wave of violent incidents sent shockwave across the state.

The Centre has expressed grave concern over the continued violence in Kandhamal. A high level cabinet meeting is likely to be held today to discuss the situation in Kandhamal and other parts of the state.

Orissa

Orissa, Orissa India’s greatest shame,
Its government makes violence on Christians just a game,
To burn to beat to kill and rape just look the other way,
Corruption of official jobs has finally had its say.

Orissa, Orissa, mouth service is your style,
Government policemen, do not protect the child,
Your actions cry to heaven for injustice you promote,
Over violence and destruction all you do is stand and gloat.

Orissa, Orissa is India to become,
Like you in lawless action marching to your vile drum,
Yes evil you enjoy this day by pretending great concern,
Your heart is black with venom, and for violence you yearn.

Orissa, Orissa, are tourists to be next,
Or visitors professing to be of a Christian sect,
Perhaps the folks from other lands should never come to seek,
To see the land of India would its criminals now meet.

Orissa, Orissa, you let injustice go,
The violent ones are free to roam continue with their show,
To kill, to rape to burn and beat all Christians in their path,
The government has shown approval of their rabid wrath.
