Home Minister Shivraj Patil visits Orissa, announces Rs. 500 crore flood relief

Breaking News! Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil visited Orissa and made an aerial survey of the flood-affected Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts. He was accompanied by Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik, Central Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu, Congress leader JB Patnaik and many others.

The Home Minister later reviewed the flood situation in the state with the Chief Minister and other state delegation. CM Naveen Patnaik reiterated his demand for a flood relief of Rs. 1500 cr from the Centre. However, Shivraj Patil announced an interim flood assistance of Rs. 500 crore for Orissa. After reaching Delhi, Shivraj Patil is expected to brief the PM on the flood situation in Orissa and may announce a comprehensive relief package for the state.
