Flood situation remains Grim, Naveen Patnaik seeks Rs. 1500 cr from Centre

Despite a decline in water levels in major rivers including Mahanadi, the flood situation remained grim in all coastal districts of the state. At least 36 gates of Hirakud Reservoir still remained open. Over 18,00,000 people have been marooned by the devastating flood. The death toll in Orissa floods reached 30. The state government has stepped up rescue and relief operations in Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Kendrapara, Boudh and Jagatsinghpur districts.

The state administration has evacuated over 1.8 lakh people to safer places so far. In total, 57 breaches have occurred in different places across the state. The most dangerous breaches occurred at Daleighai, Ranasankha and Biluaghai.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Centre to declare the Orissa floods as "National Disaster" and provide a relief of Rs. 1500 crore. The centre hasn't yet reacted to Orissa's demand.
