BJD-BJP win 67 out of 91 Civic Bodies in Orissa

The ruling BJD-BJP won as many as 67 Municipalities and NACs out of 91 in the state. While the BJD alone won 47 civic bodies, BJP bagged 20 civic bodies. Congress put up a dismal show by winning just 15 civic bodies. Independent candidates won 8 civic bodies, while Samajwadi Party won the Jajpur Municipality.

Although BJD and BJP did not have pre-poll alliance in most districts, they came up together after the elections. Congress had to suffer the most because of this smart alliance. The party had hoped to revive its fortune in the upcoming assembly elections. But the recent municipal elections proved beyond doubt that BJD-BJP will remain in power in Orissa at least for 10 years. There is no denying the fact that Congress has a long way to go before it hopes to grab power in the state.
