Orissa Health Scam (OHSDP): Rs. 38 lakh loss in X-Ray Purchase reported

The Orissa Vigilance department, which registered graft cases against seven health department officials in the state for their involvement in the Orissa Health System Development Project (OHSDP), found the misappropriation of Rs. 38 lakh in the purchase of X-Ray equipments. This time, five of those seven officials were found involved. The project was aided by World Bank. Criminal cases have been registered against retired IAS officer, Mayadhara Panigrahi and others.

The $76.4 million Orissa Health System Development Project (OHSDP) was launched in 1998 and was completed in 2006. Large scale corruption was reported in the implementation of the project. The World Bank sources earlier pointed out to the involvement of a state health minister and some officials. More skeletons are likely to tumble, as the probe continues.
