Orissa Policemen speak out, demand adequate staff to fight Naxal Menace

The recent Maoist attack in Nayagarh and Daspalla, opened a new debate among the policemen in the state. Nayagarh was never a naxal-prone area and no such incidents were reported in the past. However, Friday's daring attack by the Maoists changed all perceptions in the state. There is a belief that Maoists could even dare to attack the state capital if they wish so.

The Orissa Police associations have demanded adequate fortification of police stations and armouries in the state. They have also asked the state government to declare the entire state as Naxal-prone. This is for the first time policemen in the state have made this demand.

What Orissa Police said and demanded are justiciable. However, it is partial solution to nab Naxal outfits. The real cause lies in Poverty. As some one has said somewhere, poverty anywhere is a threat to prosperity everywhere.
