Orissa Govt: Ban on Poultry import to continue

Even though the West Bengal government has lifted the ban on the trade, transport and consumption of poultry, the Orissa government has decided not to lift the ban on import of poultry birds from West Bengal and Jharkhand. It was confirmed by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Secretary H K Panda.

It could be recalled that despite the directives from the Centre, the Orissa government had failed to go for the culling of poultry birds in the areas bordering Bird Flu-hit West Bengal. The matter is in High Court now. The Centre in its recent recommendations, asked the Orissa government to end restriction on import of poultry birds from West Bengal, but the government is not ready to accept it.
