Nine Lakh Poultry Birds to be culled in Orissa
Despite the objections from Fisheries and Animal Resources Department (FARD) against culling of poultry birds , the Orissa government has decided to go for the culling within 5 km radius of Orissa-West Bengal border. The culling will begin on Wednesday. According to the estimates, around 9 lakh birds are expected to be culled.Although no bird flu has been detected in the state so far, the government is playing safe following the directives from the Centre. The government has already formed two teams to carry out the culling operations. The affected poultry farmers will be duly compensated by the state government within 7 days.
