2500 year old City unearthed in Sisupalgarh, Orissa

Archaeologists have unearthed a 2,500 year old city at Sisupalgarh in Orissa. According to ASI (Archeological Survey of India) sources, the city is older and bigger than Athens in Greece. They also believe that it had a population of more than 25,000. Although Sisupalgarh was discovered in 1948, the actual excavation began only three years ago.

A team of archeologists from Deccan College in Pune, University of California and Archeological Survey of India (ASI) are conducting the excavations. Some of the interesting findings of the team included a large monument for public gathering, a large variety of pottery, pillars, walls and utensils.
