Counter-Offensive: Police killed two Maoists in Sambalpur
Less than two days after the Maoists attacked a forest range office in Jamankira, Sambalpur, the security forces achieved a major breakthrough by gunning down 2 Maoists in a fierce encounter in the same locality. The encounter lasted for nine hours. At least 12 Maoists were present during the encounter. While the police fired 400 rounds of bullets, the Maoists fired 100 rounds. None of the policemen was injured.The Maoists killed in the encounter, have been identified as the locals from Sambalpur district. The police have seized three self-loading rifles, a .303 rifle and a .315 rifle (snatched away from the forester), 26 rounds of live bullets, blank cartridges and other personal belongings of the Maoists.
