Tribal Girl "gangraped" in the Capital City

A tribal girl was said to be gangraped in Narayani Basti slum near Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. Two persons, including a home-guard have been detained in connection with the incident. The girl was basically from Phulbani district and had come to visit her sister and brother-in-law.

According to her, five people barged into her house at 11 PM. Two of them first raped her inside the room and then too her to a deserted place in a car. She was again raped by two other people. Later, she was dropped outside her sister's house.

The police has refused to immediately believe what the girl said. They are still investigating the matter. According the sources, they are also inquiring the antecedents of the victim's sister and brother-in-law, as her statements were found to be vague. Meanwhile, women activists in the state have demanded immediate action on this matter.
