Chloroquine not working in Orissa

According to latest reports, the most successful drug "Chloroquine" that worked wonder for Malaria, is not working well in Orissa. Several districts in the state reported the failure of the drug. Situation in Phulbani, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore and Kendrapada is very bad. The report was confirmed by Shantanu K. Kar, director of the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar.

The state and central governments are aware of the situation and they are planning to phase out chloroquine completely from the state and introduce a second line drug in the next three to four months.
