United Nations to spend $24 Million in Orissa Development
In a significant development, the United Nations said that it would spend US $24 million for the development of Orissa in 2008. The money would be spent in the form of technical assistance and direct support to different welfare programs in the state.UN Resident Coordinator and head of agencies of the UN System, Maxine Olsen made a presentation before the state government in this regard. According to him, the UN would focus on human resource development aiming promotion of social, economic and political inclusion of the most disadvantaged, especially women and girls. Besides Orissa, other states such as Bihar, Chhatishgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will be given special attention.
