More than 700 Freshwater Turtles seized in Malkangiri

According to latest reports, at least 720 freshwater turtles were seized from a truck in Malkangiri district. Two people have been arrested in this connection. According to senior officials, the consignment weighed 600 kg.

The arrested persons belonged to local Bengali refugee community. They have been charged under sections of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. They bought the freshwater turtles from Andhra Pradesh to sell in the local markets.
