Cyclone Alert off Orissa Coast

A Cyclone alert has been issued in the coastal districts after a cyclonic formation occurred at a distance of 300 km from Port Blair. According to the sources, the formation is now located at a distance of 1000 km south east of Gopalpur Port. The storm is expected to reach Orissa within 72 hours. However, a clear picture will emerge by tomorrow.

The Special Relief Commissioner has asked all the District Collectors of coastal areas to stay alert. If the cyclonic storm reaches Orissa in its present form, a wind speed of 90km/hour is expected. However, the speed might reach 150km/hour if storm stays longer and takes a powerful shape. All fishermen in Paradeep, Gopalpur, Chandbali and Puri have been advised not to venture into the sea.
