Bhubaneswar goes Global

Bhubaneswar was not the same 10 years ago. Although the city was built on the planning of Chandigarh, its life-style never resembled Delhi or Chandigarh. However, things in 2007, have become completely different. Shopping Malls, Food Chains, Discos, Pubs and several other recreation homes are coming up in the city in large numbers.

Currently, there are two Biz Bazars, two Vishal Mega Marts and a grand Pantaloon store besides several food hangouts such as Coffee Cafe Day and Pizza Hut. The youngsters are now waiting for McDonald, Nirula's and KFC to arrive in the city sooner or later. The youngsters have completely fashionable, thanks to the impact of high education and exposure to city life.

Non-oriyas who are residing in Bhubaneswar in large numbers - have added spice to the life in Bahubaneswar. Punjabis, Marwaris, Bengalis and Biharis come to the city either for business, study or jobs in MNCs. MNC employees and young students have already taken the city by storm. They live their life to the fullest and make others to enjoy with them.

The clothes, mobile phones, jewelleries, accessories and other equipments the youngsters are using today in Bhubaneswar were never thought of a decade ago. That's the impact of globalization and the fever has gripped both guys and girls. The day is not too far when we will see young boys and girls from the city scoring a few points over their metro counterparts in every aspect.

Buddy, seems u haven't seen much of the world. Open ur eyes and look beyond ur kitchen garden fence. I agree things have changed but not much. Bhubaneswar still lacks good pubs, multiplexes and real shopping malls where u can actually hang out instead of going for cost to cost shopping. I still like the old warm charm and am afraid that too much off rapid development might turn the city into an unplanned metropolitic slum.

Its quite true that BBSR is slowly going in for a change. But my take on this is will be that, will this change give a better living condition for the residents?

If you take a note of growth that has happened in other big cities, you may infer that it has only created more issues. Reason being, this growth was not organised and the state Govt was not prepared for it. Growth is good only very its controlled and organised.

i would say BBSR stay the way it was, rather than grow like other cities where people have to even buy water & if its growth cant be directed effectively.

City growth depends on its revenue earning capacity. This also shows in its infrastructure..

Are BBSR people geared up for a positive change to have BETTER life style (not Malls, pubs),, its a question which has be answered.
