Chikungunya spreads in Puri, 30 tested Positive

At least 300 people, showing symptoms of Chikungunya have visited the Balanga hospital in the past few days. Balanga is about 30 km from Puri. According to health authorities, the blood samples of more than 30 patients have tested positive for Chikungunya. This is for the first time the coastal district witnessed symptoms of Chikungunya of high magnitude.

The government has rushed medical teams to the disease-prone areas. Temporary treatment centres have been opened in the area and the health officials have kept a close watch on the situation. Chikungunya is caused by mosquito bite.
